Thor is a Polyphonic synthesizer designed specifically for the ipad. It has an innovative keyboard which combines a regular piano style keyboard with a touch surface for playing notes. The keyboard layout is novel and easily picked up, you can choose the notes you are playing with your left hand and actually play them by "strumming" the two strips to the right of the keyboard. The actual synthesizer is both incredibly flexible and powerful combining 6 different oscillator type`s with 4 types of filter- and like the previous Korg synth is best mastered after a long read of a manual. The synth also comes with over 1000 sound patches.

On the iPad, Thor's interface has been designed with tactile control in mind.
Thor isn't just about sonic capabilities, but also about expressive playing. Its keyboard lets you play however you want. Use the regular, resizable chromatic keyboard, or set it to a key and a scale and use the Collapse function to create a keyboard with only the chord notes in it. To users of Figure, this approach is nothing new. To others: welcome to a keyboard for happy experimentation where you can't hit the wrong note!
The keyboard also has Strum and Hit features. Hold a chord and strum it with one finger. Or use the hit function to trigger the chord as a stab.
The sound sculpting is done in the Buttons and Routing modes. Buttons gives you exactly that: the main part of Thor's interface with buttons, knobs, faders and what have you. Here is where you can access Thor's three oscillator slots, ready for any of the six oscillator types: Analog, Wavetable, Phase Modulation, FM Pair, Multi Oscillator and noise. The three filter holds any of Thor's four filter types: Low Pass Ladder, State Variable, Comb or Formant.
The different sections of the panel, such as oscillators, filters, envelopes and so on expand and fold away at the touch of a button to give you a clear view of what you are doing.
The Routing mode is where you set up modulation or change the routing in Thor to your liking. This is where you can create some absurdly complex synthesis magic, but the basics are really simple. Select a modulation source, like an LFO for instance. Select a target, like say, a Filter frequency. Set a modulation amount and you're done!
While Thor for iPad is a capable instrument in its own right that you can play around with, perform or record like any instrument, you can also move your Thor patches between your iPad and your computer to keep working on something in Reason that you came up with on the iPad. Or move your darling patches from your computer to your iPad.
